PERNEM: In the wake of the recent fatal accident at Naibag junction, Poroscodem, locals have demanded that the authorities immediately construct a flyover at the accident-prone junction.
The locals from Pernem along with the authorities visited the Naibag junction at Poroscodem for a site inspection on Tuesday.
The Naibag junction, which is an accident-prone area along the highway, has witnessed numerous fatal accidents due to improper road alignment and lack of a fly-over. The frustrated locals questioned the government for not fixing responsibility and demanded that the flyover to be constructed immediately.
“Pernem’s former MLA Babu Ajgaonkar had promised us that the flyover would be finished at that time, but work has not started and the number of accidents have increased. The former MLA deserves recognition today for being in charge of all the fatalities and property damage on this route,” a frustrated local claimed.
Despite the issue being raised in the Goa Assembly by Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, no action has been taken till date. The authorities have assured to install traffic signals at Poroscodem and Don Khamb, Dhargal before the flyover construction so as to reduce traffic/accidents.
“Several accidents have occurred on this highway till date, including a fatal one. The absence of a service road is the cause of everything. It is difficult for people to move throughout the village. I had asked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to investigate this. The Chief Minister has given an assurance regarding the completion of the flyover and traffic signals will be installed at Poroscodem and Don Khamb, Dhargal ahead of the construction,” said Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar.
