VASCO: ‘Goa First’, an NGO, has alleged that the Government plans to destroy the taxi business by introducing Taxi Mobile App. The NGO has demanded that the GTDC come out clear on how they plan to operate the App in the near future.
“The State government wants to destroy taxi business by introducing of Taxi Mobile App. There are more than 20,000 taxi drivers and families directly dependent on this business — where no middle men involved in the business, presently. The government has plans to introduce an Taxi Mobile App named as “Goamiles” wherein the GTDC has very ambitious plans of promoting this App both to local commuters and tourists at large as we being in Goa hardly find any locals try to use any taxi service as vehicular population is now at par with the human population in Goa,” said Parshuram Sonurlekar of Goa First.
“Where all the central government apps have been designed by National Informatics Centre and Goa Government Apps/portals are designed by Goa Electronics Ltd. GTDC has hired a third party to design, promote and manage this App,” informed Sonurlekar.
He demanded that GTDC clarify whether it has appointed any middlemen/union to take care of documentation process; whether it has conducted a feasible study about the need for such App and others.
He also said that when the Supreme Court has been clear in its judgement for fitment of meters for taxis what arises the need of having an app.
