Bicholim civic body to construct sewage plant

To build statues of Shenoi Goembab, Shivaji near Hirabai Memorial Hall and at Bicholim ground

BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) has resolved to construct a sewage treatment plant at Lakherem in Bicholim and to set up a parking plaza in the town.
It has also resolved to build a statue of Shenoi Goembab in the garden opposite the Hirabai Memorial Hall and a statue of Shivaji Maharaj near the Bicholim ground.
The resolutions were taken at a recent council meeting. During the meet, the council decided to use funds from the Centre and State and municipal funds to develop the city. Keeping in mind the growing population and buildings coming up in the town as well as the concerns that households were releasing waste water into gutters, the BMC resolved to construct a sewage treatment plant in the town urgently.
The councillors also highlighted the parking problems in the town, after which the BMC resolved to construct a special parking plaza.
“We have a serious problem of parking, and so the council has decided to have a parking plaza and new business centre in the town. We are trying to use MP funds for this purpose; When North Goa MP Shripad Naik visits Bicholim, we will have a discussion with him about the issue,” said Satish Gaonkar, BMC Chairman.
Gaonkar also expressed concern about water pipelines that pass through gutters, causing a serious health threat to the people. In view of this, the BMC has asked the Public Works Department (PWD) to provide a plan of all pipelines in the town and to replace the ones that pass through gutters.
He added that the Town Centre building would be given on rent after it was repaired.
In another major decision, the BMC has resolved to build a statue of Shenoi Goembab in the garden opposite the Hirabai Memorial Hall and a statue of Shivaji Maharaj near the Bicholim ground. The BMC has also resolved not to tolerate the encroachments of vendors in the market.
