PANJIM: In a move that has upped the ante in the ongoing battle for the Corporation of the City of Panaji, 16 councillors on Friday approached the High Court demanding the quashing the order issued by the Director of Municipal administration and the subsequent letter issued by the Commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues.
The writ also wants the court to order the fixing of the election date and to restrain the present mayor and deputy mayor from continuing in their posts.
The writ alleges that because the BJP would not get its candidates elected it used the powers of the State “in a malafide exercise of power” to postpone the meeting at the venue of the elections itself.
