PANJIM: Goa Police on Wednesday said they will initiate action against banks that are not following the safety and security guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India.
Speaking to the media, Inspector General of Goa Police Sunil Garg said they will meet with all bank managements in Goa to formally warn them to improve the safety and security of their respective bank ATMs.
“We will be also writing to them formally and whoever is found disobeying the RBI guidelines will face action as per law,” Garg said.
He added that police will make it compulsory for banks to install CCTV cameras and appoint security guards 24×7 at ATMs.
Over 50 customers have been affected so far due to hackers and have lost funds from their bank accounts. Bank managements have also filed complaints at the cyber cell of Crime Branch.
During the course of investigation it was revealed that some banks were not adhering to the prescribed safety and security measures.
Cyber crime cell investigating the ATM hacking case revealed there is an international racket involved in duping over 50 customers in Goa.
A Crime Branch officer said the withdrawals in some cases have been made outside the country. “We are verifying records of all transactions of all accounts as it is revealed that some of the withdrawals are from outside India,” a Crime Branch officer said.
