PANJIM: Chimbel gram sabha on Sunday unanimously rejected its Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) alleging that it contains construction and maintenance of gutters in the village.
During the meeting, presided by sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar, Village Development Committee (VDC) member Tushal Priolkar raised strong objection to GPDP alleging that the plan was prepared bypassing VDC members which is in violation of constitutional procedure and guideline that need to be followed while drafting the village plan.
He alleged that VDC meetings to seek inputs were held during the working days and hence no member could attend.
Another local and VDC member Ganesham Shirvoikar pointed out that more than 95 per cent work included in GPDP are only gutters constructions and maintenance, rest is related to cleanliness, garbage collection, etc.
Major community programme or works related to health, education, sports, promotion of farming, agriculture, environment protection, water bodies preservation, employment generation, promotion of traditional & cultural activities/program, programs on awareness…etc were missing in GPDP, the local claimed.
The plan was therefore unanimously rejected by the villagers and demanded that a new plan in consultation with them be drafted.
