Parents of the students studying at Government Higher Secondary School, Sanguem have called the authorities for the immediate cleaning of the school surroundings covered with litter all around.
The school campus, which is otherwise used by the students during their free time, is occupied with unused material which is dumped at many places. The dumped materials include dangerous items like metal sheets, iron rods, rafters and broken roof tiles.
The parents are worried of their wards getting injured while playing or moving inside the school campus.
Moreover fears are also expressed of water borne diseases affecting the students due to the unattended and open water tank at the school entrance.
Besides, the aggrieved parents have also complained of leakages in classrooms which have been repaired recently due to the contractor’s poor quality work. Non-functioning fans and tube lights in some of the classrooms is also reported to be the order of the day.
On the academic front, the higher secondary lacks a full time Headmaster. Sources informed that the Headmaster working at the Government Higher Secondary School, Sanguem only holds the charge as an additional post and as such he is not in a position to give hundred per cent attention to his duty. Several teachers working at the higher secondary are either on contract basis or part-time due to which the studies of the students are severely affected. In the absence of full time teachers, the students are left to the mercy of the part time teachers who are always on lookout for better pastures.
The parents have urged the Education Department for the immediate deputation of full time Headmaster and teachers in the best interest of the students.
With the higher secondary already accounting for poor results and with the prevailing scenario, coupled with the negligence of the Education Department, the parents are worried over the number of students applying for admission at this higher secondary to severely affect students in the coming years. It is, however, pertinent to note here that the majority students applying for admission at the Sanguem Higher Secondary School hail from poor families and from the remote areas who cannot afford to travel long distances to pursue their academic career.
