PANJIM: The Goa Congress on Friday held a protest in the city condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks, “it has become a fashion for the Congress to chant the name of Dr B R Ambedkar”.
Congress leaders condemned the remarks made by Shah during the Parliamentary session on December 19 and demanded his resignation.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar said, “I want to tell Amit Shah that Ambedkar is a passion for us and we will take his name as many times as we want.”
GPCC Vice-President Sunil Kawthankar said it was Dr Ambedkar who gave a strong foundation which helped India to get united. “Some people, who exploited a certain section of the society, have an allergy to Dr Ambedkar. Because it was Baba Saheb who brought all sections of the society together by giving them respect and recognition. Still those who want to run the country with their crony friends have a problem with the name of Dr Ambedkar. What Amit Shah spoke yesterday shows the mentality of the same class,” he said.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesman Tulio D’Souza said BJP leaders must realise that the rights they are enjoying are due to the contribution made by great leaders like Dr Ambedkar.
Mr Shah has not just insulted Dr Ambedkar but also the whole country and its citizens.
