Armed with black flags and placards, the volunteers have called for the immediate scrapping of the unjustified and anti-consumer Electricity Tariff Hike with immediate effect.
The Goa Womens Forum is of the opinion that the Electricity Department must cut its losses and plug its leakages instead of burdening the honest bill paying consumers with the tariff hike.
The proposed attempt by the Electricity Dept to recover Nine Hundred and Twenty Nine Crores (929) deficit of the last Thirty years only points out that the Department does not have financial transparency and accountability.
It may be recalled that the Goa Electricity Department has submitted a petition to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for increasing the Electricity Tariff for the year 2015 -2016 which was presented at the Public Hearing held in Panjim on March 11 chaired by JERC Chairman Sudhir K Chaturvedi.
The forum has called on the MLAs, Zilla Panchayat Members, Village Panchayat Members and Municipal Councillors to speak out against the proposed Electricity Tariff Hike.
Meanwhile, the GWF will submit its representation at the Public Hearing called by the (JERC) to be held on March 26 in Panjim. The GWF will request the JERC not to permit the tariff hike until the Goa Electricity Dept presents its audited accounts, its action plan to curb transmission losses, reduce accidents and put in place an effective consumer education program as it is the sole electricity service provider in the State of Goa.
