PANJIM: Reeling under
financial crisis, the Corporation of City of Panjim (CCP) wants State
government to settle the outstanding dues of electricity amount of which is a
whopping Rs 3 crore approx.
In a letter to the
corporation Commissioner, Mayor Surendra Furtado sought to send a proposal to
the Directorate of Municipal Administration to sanction grant-in-aid to settle
the dues of electricity and water supply at the Panjim municipal market.

“Action may be taken now to
send a proposal to the DMA for sanction of the grants-in-aid to the CCP for
settlement of the outstanding dues of electricity charges and water supply to
the Pnajim municipal market immediately, since disconnection of the same may
create lot of hue and cry by the public and embarrassment to this corporation,”
the letter states.
The Electricity Department
had directed the CCP to pay an outstanding energy bill of Rs 3.12 crore failing
which the power supply to the market would be disconnected.“It is very much
regretted to inform that the energy bill pertaining to the installation –
Panjim Municipal Market – has not been paid till date and as such the total
amount including arrears accumulated to
the tune of Rs 3,12,28,309 as on February 6, 2017,” reads the letter issued by
Assistant Engineer, Sub Division II, to CCP commissioner.
Furtado had conceded that
CCP did not pay the electricity bill ever since the market was redeveloped in
2007.
