The contractor’s company, Vaibhavi Dredging in their letter, explained the following, “We have been issued a Work Order by department of The Captain of Ports, Government of Goa, dated 24.11.2020. As per the work order they have mobilized the machineries at desilting site at Sal River and that they are supposed to commence the work of desiltation at the earliest. This is for your kind information and record. We would be commencing the work from tomorrow, ie December 19. Kindly co-operate with us in desalting/cleaning of our Sal River and oblige.”

The Chinchinim Deussua panchayat in their reply informed the contractor that their panchayat has strong objection for the same and that villagers are also objecting for the said work to be undertaken. They added that the said works are also objected to by the Village Biodiversity Committee.

“This panchayat has already written to the Captain of Ports, Government of Goa objecting the said works, dated 10/12/2020 and also forwarded the objection to all other concerned departments (copy enclosed). Request you once again to kindly stop any such  desilting/dredging works in the jurisdiction of Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua as it will create a law and order issue and unrest in the village as the works are completely objected by the villagers,” said Sarpanch Inacina Rebello.
