CANACONA: In a desperate bid to bypass the protesting transporters, outstation vegetable vendors have begun using state-run buses to transport goods to Goa.
On Friday afternoon, a Karnataka state bus was seen loaded with sacks containing areca nuts and banana leaves, which were unloaded at Chaudi, while more goods were seen on top of the bus for onward transportation.
Meanwhile, the essential commodities bazaar scenario at Chaudi was normal and milk supply to the taluka was unaffected from Polem border.
Fresh vegetables were available as normal but local vendors selling traditionally grown vegetables seemed to be most frequented by marketers on Friday.
Following a ban call by merchants from both neighbouring states not to supply commodities to Goa, it needs to be seen if the Chaudi weekly bazaar kicks off as usual, even though a few trucks loaded with stocks reportedly arrived in the taluka, while some more are reported to be on the way to the weekly bazaar at Chaudi, said sources.
Incidentally, most vendors arrived with stocks either from Karnataka and places like Kolhapur-Maharashtra.
