Assagao panchayat hikes house tax, garbage fee rates

PERNEM: The Assagao gram sabha was informed on Sunday that house tax rates have been increased. 
Sarpanch Hanumant Naik said that the house tax of old houses has been increased from Rs 80 to Rs 150, while the new houses will be charged as per government rates.
The sarpanch further informed the garbage tax rates have also been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 400 for every household and the villas will have to pay Rs 2,000 instead of Rs 1,000.
However, he said, tax on small time commercial establishments will remain at Rs 1,000. In case of medium sized hotels and restaurants, garbage fee is hiked from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 and in case of big hotels, they will be charged as per number of rooms. 
He further informed that the panchayat has proposed to impose Rs 1,500 per room; and for tea stalls and kiosks, the fee has been hiked to Rs 500 from Rs 100. 
“Ward wise survey will be done to identify hotels and number of rooms used for commercial activities,” he added.
The sarpanch mentioned that the panchayat has received circular from the Director of Panchayats to tie up with an NGO to tackle the stray cattle menace. 
“Following the circular, the panchayat has decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Gomantak Seva Mahasangh and approach the government for financial assistance,” he said.
Meanwhile, a local Rajan Ghate informed about the notices issued by Health Department to 35 households of threatening to disconnect water and electricity for discharging waste water into river. 
Ghate suggested that the panchayat may request the government to provide bio-toilets to these households and keep the notice on hold until then since there is no place for construction of soak pits and toilet here.
Complaining that they are facing water scarcity, the villagers demanded up-gradation of water tanks to solve the water problem in the village. 
To this, the sarpanch informed that the PWD has suggested of having a bore well to solve the issue. As such, he appealed to the people to suggest location for the same.
Raising concern over mixed garbage, sarpanch said that the panchayat is collecting garbage door-to-door. However, some people are giving mixed garbage. Therefore, he appealed to the villagers not to give mixed garbage but segregate it. 
He informed that the panchayat has approached the Assagao Comunidade for 500 sqmtrs of land for dumping garbage.
