MAPUSA: Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude on Monday informed that the State Government has urged Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to allow Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank depositors to withdraw up to 1 lakh.
At present the withdrawal limit is up to 50,000.
“We are holding talks with Reserve Bank of India so that at least 95 percent of depositors can get relief from withdrawal limit. The decision is not in our hands hence it’s taking time as we are convincing the Reserve Bank of India to increase withdrawal limit,” Gaude said.
The minister ruled out the possibility of any merger plans with Goa state Cooperative Bank.
“Goa State Cooperative Banks have come up to a level where audit reports are now getting balanced and if additional burden is put on the banks then they can collapse. I’m not ready to take any risk. At least for next two years, we will not put any burden on Goa State Banks as they are improving gradually”, Minister added.
