Story: Childless couples that they are, Makensy (Maxie) and Samenca (Samenca), Julio (Jose) and Lavina (Lavina) are on loggerheads. What saves their marriage?
Review:
Makensy is the only son of Shalini (Chitra). He is well educated and has a secured job, but he is reluctant to settle in marriage due to meagre salary. When Mekensy reveals that he has a girlfriend, Shalini (Chitra) coaxes her son to settle in marriage. Mekensy’s girlfriend, Samenca drops in with her father Rumaldo (Satyawant Tari) to talk about marriage. After talks with each other, the deal is struck and marriage preparations begin.
On the other hand, Lavina, who has tied the knot with Julio, is well educated as well, with a good job. But as she does not get what she expects from her husband back home, she instantly seeks it from Makensy in the office. After tying the knot with Samenca, Mekensy convinces Lavina to give up that extra-marital relationship, but she is reluctant.
After Mekensy’s marriage, Shalini yearns to become a grandmother. But the delay irks her and she demands divorce. Before divorce is sought, Mekensy ignores his wife, drives her away and settles with Lavina. Now, Shalini waits with high hopes for the arrival of her grandson.
Will Shalini’s dreams come true with Lavina as her daughter-in-law? Who works for unity of the split couples? Will Makensy and Samenca, Julio and Lavina reconcile and safeguard their marriage? What plan do Makensy and Samenca work upon to keep Shalini content? What is the end result?
Menino de Bandar’s tiatr ‘Dev Tumkaim Ditolo’ revolves around relationship in marriage and splits. It also throws light on extra-marital ties, which work for destruction of marriages. There’s a small twist in the story in the second half and helps the viewers to stay fastened to their seats till the end.
Interludes in the opening chorus and the second half carry some scenes worth watching. The light effects and background music equally help in the execution of the artwork on stage.
As couples, Maxie and Samenca, Jose and Lavina have played their respective characters with gusto. Satyawant Tari and Chitra as heads of their respective families deliver in style. Menino de Bandar, as priest and intermediator, plays a convincing role.
Meena as Yelam’ma, Humbert as Kapostad, Valencio and Raymond come together for some laughter pills, but vulgarity through expression of words could have been toned down.
In the category of songs, Jr Regan, Cajetan de Curtorim, Jose, Clint and Saby de Divar entertain with their solos, with Saby’s political song receiving an encore. There’s a duet by Samenca and Jose, a duo by Humbert and Valencio and a trio by Cajetan de Curtorim, Jr Reagan and Jose. A quartet and a choral went amiss in the drama.
