BENAULIM: NCP’s Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Wednesday expressed his solidarity with the striking taxi operators and urged the State government to take a ‘good’ decision in their favour.
Speaking to media persons after a delegation of tourist taxi operators met him at his Varca office, Churchill reiterated his constant support to the tourist taxi operators who he termed were his ‘Goan brethren’ eking out a livelihood for their families through their taxi trade.

He pointed out to the lack of unity amongst the tourist taxi operators due to certain “godfathers” backing them.
Churchill defended the tourist taxi operators for not charging exorbitant tariffs as compared to the tour operators. He accused the tour operators of charging the tourists five times the fare.
Reacting to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s remark that ‘the tourist taxis must be parked 500 metres away from the hotels,’ Churchill said that he had frequently raised the tourist taxi operators issue in the Assembly and had even questioned the domicile of ‘Goa Miles’ taxi drivers.
