Sandeep Parkar and other gram sabha members stated that the proposed bandhara on the river besides being an environmental disaster would also flood houses at Murdi Khandepar.

“The river is rich in marine life and at the same time an eco sensitive zone and if the saline and fresh water seperates then the chances of shell fish vanishing from the river bed is very high,” said villagers.

Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar , local panch Abhijeet Gaonkar and other panchas supported the resolution moved by the gramsabha members.

The sarpanch stated that the panchayat would stand by the decision of gramsabha and that the NOC to WRD bandhara would be revoked.

The polluted muddy water from the river flowing through the taps was also brought to the notice of the panchayat.

Villagers stated that despite they objecting to the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Curti, work on the project was still being carried out in a haphazard manner leading to road blockades causing hardships to locals and demanded that the panchayat take up the issue seriously.
