MARGAO: Hospicio will receive the services of additional medical consultants to tide over the shortage of doctors, but patients at the government-run Hospicio have nothing to cheer about for the moment.
For, patients have been undergoing ordeal since the last three days after the lift broke down since Thursday, putting them in hardships. Patients, who had undergone surgery, in the last three days, were the worst hit, since they had to either walk upstairs or had to be carried by their relatives. Those undergoing dialysis on the third floor of the hospital building were the worst hit as they had to climb three floors to avail the facility. Surprisingly, the authorities also failed to repair the other lift which had been out of actions for months.
What made the relatives an agitated lot was the fact that the hospital authorities handed out empty promises that the lift will be put in order within hours. “Either they tried to fool us with empty promises or they could not repair the lift,” remarked a relative accompanying a patient.
When contacted, Hospicio Medical Superintendent, Dr P D Naschinolkar confirmed that the hospital lift has been out of order since the last three days. And he has no idea when the lift will resume its operation since it is stuck by a major problem. “It’s true that the lift has been out of order since the last three days. The company entrusted with the maintenance work had tried their best to repair the same, but in vain. Some parts of the lift are not available in Goa and the company has decided to procure the same from Mumbai. Let us hope that the repair work is completed at least by Monday”, Naschinolkar said.
