Liquor licences renewal date extended

PANJIM: The Excise Department has further extended the deadline for renewal of liquor licences till June 30, in a bid to prevent mass gathering which could defeat the purpose of steps taken to fight COVID-19 pandemic. 

On Friday, Excise Commissioner Amit Satija issued a circular informing all the excise inspector in-charges of talukas regarding the extension of date for renewal of licenses for sale of liquor.

“…in order to avoid mass gathering so as to prevent the spreading of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the government has further extended the date for renewal of licences other than manufacturing unit and bottling unit till June 30, in the interest of public health and safety,” reads the circular. 

Earlier on March 24, when nationwide lockdown was first announced, the government had extended the renewal period till May 31 as against the existing annual deadline of March 31.
