VALPOI: For the past several days Sattari locals especially those from the rural areas have been left without electricity.
The locals complained that they are forced to live in darkness for no fault of theirs despite complaining to the Electricity Department officials, who have failed to restore power supply to their areas.
“For the past several days there is no power supply in our village. We also staged a morcha on Electricity Department in Valpoi, but till the date no action has been taken to restore power supply, complained Diptesh Naik, a villager adding that till date not a single local representative has met us regarding pre-monsoon works in the taluka.
“We are trying our best to restore power failure supply to the areas,” said the officials of Electricity Department in Valpoi.
“We have already completed 85 percent pre-monsoon works and remaining 15% works will be completed soon. The lower rank staff especially the linesmen and the electricians are not listening to us and are behaving rudely,” complained the electricity department officers.
“Now, we have started the aerial bunch cable work in Morlem, Keri, Bhirondem and Honda areas but in Honda especially in Saleli, the villagers are objecting to the cable work. The aerial bunch cable work in the taluka will cost nearly Rs 12 crore and will solve the power woes. We have been requesting the villagers to cooperate with us, said Saudagar Sayyad, Assistant Engineer, Electricity Department in Valpoi.
Sayyad said, “Valpoi Electricity Department lacks modern equipment to cut the tree branches, which have been creating problems especially during monsoons. We have already submitted the proposal to the Government for providing us with modern equipment and the file has been pending with the Financial Department for many months. We will form a special squad to solving the problems”.
