MAPUSA: Socorro residents on Thursday marched to the Porvorim PWD office and confronted the Executive Engineer with regards to their water supply problems.
Residents of Maina Waddo in Socorro complained that for the past three years they are receiving less water from the PWD and are forced to hire private tankers. Some houses are receiving less water, while those located in the hilly areas have not received single drop of water.
They informed that there is a bore well in the ward through which they used to receive water three years ago, but suddenly the bore well water was stopped. One-and-half year ago, the work order was issued to restart the supply of water from the bore well, but till date nothing has happened.
The residents further informed that the new pipeline work from church to the Maina Waddo has been left incomplete for over a year. Locals demanded that these two issues be resolved soon.
They informed they have approached the local MLA and PWD office several times and had addressed letters to the CM and Governor. However, their prayers fell on deaf years.
The residents claimed that they are forced to hire private water tankers by spending Rs 600 on each and complained of bad water quality.
Meanwhile, EE Porvorim assured them to take up the issues on priority basis and to hold site inspection of pending works.
