MARGAO: At the extraordinary gram sabha of Assolna panchayat, convened and chaired by deputy sarpanch Savio F Fereira, the members took a resolution to allow the Thursday bazaar at Lohia Chowk, Assolna.
It may be recalled that at the last gram sabha, a resolution was adopted not to allow Thursday bazaar at Lohia Chowk as the members were of the opinion that it would defile the sanctity of the place.
However, the resolution came in for strong opposition at today’s extraordinary gram sabha wherein members by majority voted for the Thursday bazaar at the Lohia Chowk.
Majority of the gram sabha members contended that they were in favour of the Thursday Bazaar since the people get food and other items at cheap rates. “Even people from surrounding villages come to the market to reap the benefits. This activity is a very good source of income for the panchayat. The place is also cleaned every week because of the bazaar,” gram sabha members in support of the Thursday Bazaar contended.
