MARGAO: The TCP & Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai has announced that the Goa government will write to the Centre raising certain objections to its recent notification which has raked up cow slaughter and the beef issue in the country.
Whilst addressing a press conference, Vijai said, “State government will object to certain aspects and suggest certain corrections to the notification on Prevention of Cruelty Towards Animal Act. I have held discussions with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar where he said that he will write to the Centre regarding the objections.”
Vijai also revealed that the concerned union minister has spoken to the chief minister and has asked him to send in the objections to the notification of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has already made a statement that government is ready to tweak the rule to rule out any apprehension in the minds of the people. As the Goa Forward Party representatives we are giving note to the CM,” Vijai said.
“Goa does not come under the ambit of these rules as we don’t have animal or cattle yard in Goa where they are sold. It is the inter-state ramifications and its repercussions that are felt in Goa,” Vijai stated.
Vijai also said the doubt in the minds of the Goans needs to be cleared given the fact that there are significant amount of people in Goa who consume beef.
Meanwhile Sardesai called Sadhvi Saraswati as a tourist to Goa and said that she does not know the ethos of the coastal state. Vijai also said the state government will come down heavily on such controversial persons.
“Goa has six million tourists coming in the state which include these kinds of saraswatis. They don’t know what is Goemkarponn. They make a controversial statement basically to gain some cheap publicity and also to get some mileage,” Vijai said.
“I am speaking not as Goa Forward Party alone but I am speaking as the minister of Goa government. Goa government’s stand is that anybody who intends to take law in their hands would be sternly acted upon,” Sardesai warned.
“Indian constitution does not forbid you to become Gau Rakshak, but when you come to Goa you should know that for every gau rakshak there is a Goa rakshak,” he warned.
