MPT officials survey houses at Kharewado

VASCO: The survey of Kharewado area began on Thursday amidst heavy police presence. The Mormugao Port Trust officials conducted a survey of the areas and marked the houses and structures in the survey area.
The team of officials was assisted by Mamlatdar under the protection of hundreds of police personnel. Earlier, demarcation of houses was stopped by locals.
Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu said that the survey has been prompted after a High Court order for demarcation of structures standing in Kharewado land.
The Mormugao Port Trust officials earlier in February were gheraoed by some Kharewado locals after they noticed the work of erecting poles. Currently, owners of 194 houses have filed an appeal before SC.
The MPT officials informed that Kharewado would soon get a modern fishing jetty, the MoU of which has already been signed. They informed that the houses demarcated here would be rehabilitated as project affected houses and the fishing jetty would be constructed.
