PANJIM: The logistics committee of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has presented a series of recommendations to the government, emphasising the need to enhance ferryboat services and introduce a ‘Water Metro’ project in the State, akin to the one in Kochi.
During a meeting with River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, the GCCI logistics committee, led by chairman Chandrakant Gawas, urged the government to conduct a comprehensive audit of roads and ferryboat ramps, emphasising the importance of regular assessments and maintenance to prevent mishaps.

The committee proposed the implementation of a water metro project akin to the one in Kochi, Kerala, suggesting that it could alleviate traffic congestion, boost tourism, and contribute to government revenue.
The delegation recommended the construction of additional ferryboats to attract tourists and enhance transportation services in and around Goa.
To improve ferry services, the committee suggested educating the public and tourists on the correct usage of ferry services to prevent accidents. They also recommended obtaining feedback from users to identify areas for improvement. Furthermore, the delegation proposed sending River Navigation Department (RND) staff for training in states with successful ferry systems.
