PONDA: While reports indicate a possible shortage of vegetable and other essential commodities due to a blockade by outstation truck associations, concerned vendors at the Ponda market said they had sufficient stocks for the next 2-3 days.
“We have no information but newspaper reports have claimed that there will be a shortage of vegetables in the market from Friday. We have been in contact with our agents who supply vegetable, but they too don’t have a clear picture of issue,” said Shankar Naik, president of Bhudhwarpeth Vyapari Sanghatana.
Apart from outstation transporters supplying vegetables to the Ponda market, local vehicles also get vegetables from neighbouring States, sources told Herald.
“The situation will be clear only on Friday. Every day, vehicles from Goa go to the neighbouring States to bring vegetables. However, we are given to understand that vehicles from Goa will not be allowed to bring in vegetables to Goa,” added Naik.
According to vendors, rumours of a possible vegetable shortage have not affected the selling price at the Ponda market.
