“To avert total blackout as reported in several parts of the country on some or the other occasion, the ministry was looking for a solution. Then some technos suggested use of DC line, which will not only reduce power consumption, but will also help in brown-out rather than blackout, wherein consumers would be in position to use at least some applications like lights, fan etc,” Goyal said.
The Union Minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of 4th Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan and Expo 2015, the first of its kind held in Goa.
Expressing disappointment over failure of India to honour the innovations in the field of science and technology, Goyal assured the gathering that the Narendra Modi-led government is committed to recognizing the innovations, especially in the indigenous technology, to ensure that in near future, rather them following other countries, India leads in the field of science and technology.
“It is very unfortunate that India has failed to recognize its researchers, innovators and scientists as much as they required to be,” he said, announcing that the government in future would provide a platform within the country for new innovations, ensuring that Indian scientists get the recognition and consumers for their works in India itself.
The commitment came after Padma Bhushan Dr M S Valiathan, expressed immense displeasure over failure of higher education to nurture the innovative ideas that students have. “Our higher education system has failed to create an atmosphere to give a boost to the innovative ideas. They have failed to nurture the ideas spotted by the young minds,” he said.
“If we can create such atmosphere, then definitely India would be the heaven on the earth,” he commented.
Valiathan, known for this contribution in medical technology in India, pointed out that not a single Indian University, ranks in the first 200 world universities, despite government spending crores of rupees.
The Brahmos missiles, the Remotely Operated Vehicle designed by DRDO’s Pune laboratory, which can defuse improvised explosive devices; Bomb Disposal Robot, Arjun battle tank, Bharani-Ashlesha 3D radars, Mangalyan-Chandrayan models, PSLV-GSLV launch vehicles, besides innovations such as climbing wheel chair, were on display during the four-day conference, that saw some eminent scientists delivering lectures on various science and technology related concepts.
