MARGAO: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar has urged the Union Minister for Shipping and Road Transport Nitin Gadkari to amend the Merchant Shipping Notice making Secondary School Certificate compulsory for obtaining Indian CDC.
In a letter addressed to the Union Minister, Narendra has attached a representation made to him by the president of Goa Seamen Association Franklin D’Costa and pointed out that there are many Goan seamen who are working on board the ship but do not have Secondary School Certificate.
He pointed out that the Merchant Shipping Notice dated January 16, 2018 that makes SSC compulsory to obtain Indian CDC would adversely affect the Goans working on ships as they would not be able to join back after their vacation.
since they do not have Secondary school certificate.
In view of this, he has asked the union minister to amend the notification so that Goan seamen who do not have secondary school certificates are not put to any hardships.
