The final day of the event saw terse preparations as the fight for the trophy in Race Board men’s event was closely poised between Murgan R and Kore Manoj by a difference of one point and Canute D’Mello, who was six points behind was expected to throw up a surprise.
In the Raceboard youth men, Myron Gomes was expected to take the fight upto Chadwick D’Mello who lead by a slim margin of three points with three races to go.
In the RS:X men’s, Chennaiah of AYN was in the clear lead on 12 points followed by Jerome on 17 points with current National Champion lagging behind on 22 points.
The first race of the day started in winds of six to eight knots with Satteppa and Jerome setting off to good starts. Chennaiah fought his way through the fleet taking the gun by pipping Jerome on the finish line with half a board length and Satteppa fell back further to finish in the fourth place. Arjun Reddy clinched the third spot.
The Championship was taken by D Chennaiah of AYN on 15 points followed by Jerome in second place by 19 points and the third place was snatched by K Arjun Reddy on 26 points.
In the Techno One Design 293 youth men’s category Dayne Coelho took first place with 12 points while Raunak Pai came second with 16 points and Russell Lobo in third place with 30 points. All three winners in this category were from Goa Yachting Association.
Raceboard youth men was won by Chadwick D’Mello on 14 points while David Estibiero and Myron Gomes tied the championships with 20 points each but David took second place as he won the final race.
Raceboard women event was a one horse race with Katya Coelho, who represented India at the Youth Olympics 2014 in Nanjing, China, was in clear lead with 10 points. Rhea Fernandes finished in the second place with 18 points and Manaswini Maharana coming third with 35 points.
Finally, the Raceboard open men’s final was won by Manoj Kumar with 17 points, second Murgan R with 20 points and Manpreet singh third with 30 points.
The prize distribution was held in the distinguished presence of chief guest MLA Michel Lobo and guest of honour Mathews Samuel, Secretary of Sports; Captain Sanjay D’Cunha from INS Mandovi and Colonel Vineet Bhatia, Deputy Commandant of HQ 2 signal training center, Panjim.
