Attacked for opposing IT park in Chimbel

PANJIM: NGO Chimbel Gram Seva Kala Ani Sanskruti Manch, which has been fighting against proposed the  IT Park in the village has alleged that unknown persons assaulted a local for speaking against the project. 
“Chimbel resident Praveen Chopdekar has been grievously injured after being thrashed by goondas in Chimbel. He is admitted to Goa Medical College. He was attacked for making statements on fraud IT Park at Chimbel,” said one of the members of the local group. 
Herald contacted Old Goa police inspector Sudesh Velip who claimed they had not received any complaint or informed about the incident till late hours of Tuesday. The NGO, referring to government’s past remark that all those opposing the IT Park will be punished, said it is an attempt to suppress their voice. The Chimbel Villagers have already demanded for white paper on the project during various gram sabha meetings. From last six months, the villagers, thr NGO spokesperson said have observed how many species of trees and medicinal plants have been brutally cut and burnt in the adjacent property of the location for IT Park.
