VASCO: Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday informed that a proposal has been forwarded before CRZ authorities for setting up a floating jetty on Bogmalo beach so that all sorts of water sports activities can be taken up at beach that has high number of footfall.
He was speaking to reporters attending a meeting that was called to hear the grievances and to review the pending projects under Chicolna-Bogmalo Panchayat jurisdiction.
“The footfall for tourism is much higher in Bogmalo. This is the only good beach in entire Mormugao taluka. As such, we have proposed to widen the roads with good illumination on all roads and to have better beach cleaning contractor so that the beach remains clean and green. Secondly, to increase the footfall on the beach a proposal has been forwarded by Bogmalo beach resort for a floating jetty at the beach so that all types of water sports can take place,” Mauvin said.
He said that with a floating jetty, activities such as snorkeling, deep-sea diving, simple boating, picnics on islands located off Bogmalo beach can take place. “New facilities on the beach will also generate employments for the local youth and it will raise the value of hotel itself. People from other parts of Goa will come once this water sports facility becomes a reality,” he said.
Mauvin said that the existing panchayat ghar is congested and the panchayat has complained that it is unable to even hold small meetings with no place for officers or people to sit. “Considering the need for a new panchayat ghar, we have decided to demolish the existing one and to build a new one on same land and within the same plinth area, but it will be a structure with better planning and good architecture. We would also provide a hall facility at the new building. For this proposal to move forward, we only need a gram sabha resolution and we will allocate funds,” he said.
On the pending inauguration of toilets at Bogmalo beach, he said, “Though the tourism department had provided toilet facility at the beach, due to want of permission from CRZ authorities, the facility could not be inaugurated. Now while going through the file, we have found a permission given by CRZ authorities in the past. We will send this copy of CRZ permission to tourism department so that they can issue permission to inaugurate the facility.”
Similarly from widening of roads, improvement of water supply, other issues like up gradation of transformers to eliminating voltage issue etc will be taken up in a phased manner.”
