AMBELIM: Chinchinim Angels came from behind to beat Royal Builders 4-3 in the tie-breaker in the Sevens Women’s Football Festival organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club, at Ambelim Sports Complex, Ambelim on Wednesday.
Daisy Crasto and Lency Peixoto scored for Royal Builders while Valenie Fernandes scored a brace for the Chichinim Angels.
The Chinchinim side came into the game off a win over Skyla Strikers while the opponents, Royal Builders lost their previous encounter to strong holds Ambelim Queens.
Daisy Crasto of Royal Builders had the first attempt in the 3rd minute itself as she shot into an open target however the ball was well cleared by Marina Rodrigues of Chinchinim Angels.
Royal Builders were the stronger side in the opening minutes with better runs down the flanks and finally managed to take the lead through Daisy Crasto who received a good through in pass from Mabel Mascarenhas in the 10th minute.
On the other side, Chinchinim Angels kept trying to make it all square as Marlat Cardozo along with fast paced Namita kept the Royal Builder’s defence working.
Chinchinim Angels had a superb chance to score but Valenie Fernandes’s shot off a free kick hit the cross bar. Royal Builders took full benefit of the missed attempt and doubled their lead just before half time as Lency Peixoto tapped in from close as they went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
On changing sides, Marlat Cardozo received a well-placed pass from Joizima Fernandes but she failed to control the ball as Joseline the keeper saved it. But they made no mistake to reduce the margin as Valenie Fernandes shot from far that landed straight into the nets, 1-2.
Later, Chinchinim Angels kept pressing to find the all-important equaliser and they were successful as Valenie completed her brace shooting from far in the final minutes.
In the tie-breaker, Valenie Fernandes and Stessi Cardozo scored for Chinchinim Angels while Mabel Mascarenhas scored for Royal Builders.
Valenie Fernandes was awarded as the woman-of-the-match for her fine brace that helped her side make a comeback.
