BICHOLIM: The mining dependents, sarpanchas and panchas from Sanquelim and Bicholim constituencies have called for restarting mining as early as possible.
Addressing a press conference at Sanquelim, the mining dependents stated that it was high time that central government should try to work to solve this problem which is affecting thousands of people in the State.
Sanquelim Municipal Council Chairman Dharmesh Saglani said, “The mining dependents are severely affected because of mining and it is surprising that the government is not giving a thought to this issue.”
“We don’t know whether the State government will remain in power or not. So, the mining dependents should have a meeting and put forth their demands at the centre. We appeal to all the ministers to come up with a concrete plan and disclose it to the people,” Saglani said.
Highlighting the plight of the mining dependents, Bicholim Municipal Council Chairman Satish Gaonkar said, “It is not that only the mining dependents are affected but the entire society is affected because of this closure of mining. Our chief minister has already written to the Centre and has made an attempt towards solving this issue.”
Gaonkar questioned the potential of the tourism to generate income in the long run and demand that the Central government intervene and give respite to the mining affected.
