MARGAO: The Goa State Scheduled Tribes Action Committee (GSSTAC) has expressed anger over the approval of the Central government regarding political reservation for scheduled tribes in Goa, prompting a call for a special meeting to determine the future course of action.
Manuel Barbosa, Secretary of GSSTAC, announced that the meeting will be convened at the organisation’s office in Raia at 10.30 am.

A day prior, Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa voiced dissatisfaction over the readjustment of representations of ST in assembly constituencies of the State, as per the Goa Bill, 2024 approved by the Union Cabinet.
Mission criticized the government for failing to meet their demands and only providing hope for the Lok Sabha election. They believe that the Union government’s decision indicates that the ST community will not receive political reservation in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Barbosa described the Central government’s approval of readjustment of seats for the Goa assembly election as a delay tactic. During the meeting, members will discuss the reservation for ST in assembly elections as mandated by the Indian Constitution and the court order of petition number 230 of 2007 in the High Court.
Barbosa emphasised that Article 332/1 clearly outlines the reservation of ST seats in the assembly. Additionally, other ST bills will also be discussed during the meeting.
