Calangute: The police has made it mandatory for staff working at the beach shacks and watersports activities at Calangute-Candolim to wear ID cards and uniforms to avoid any unsavoury incidents with tourists.

Porvorim SDPO Vishwesh Karpe and other police officers on Thursday held an interaction with watersports and beach shack operators in Baga during which a number of issues were discussed as the peak tourism season was at the doorstep.
“We informed them about the do’s and don’ts. Tourists visiting Goa should go back with good memories. Stakeholders have been directed to install CCTV cameras. The staff should wear ID cards and uniforms,” said Karpe and added that those refusing to fall in line would be immediately apprehended by police.
The DySP also stated that the police will book those playing loud music beyond the stipulated hours. “Loud, amplified music has to be stopped at 10 pm and there is no compromise on that. Shacks have to strictly follow the tourism department rules about the number of tables and the area for them. Whenever a guest gets drunk and creates nuisance, he should be restrained and the police should be immediately informed,” said Karpe.
Queried about the touts and pimps scouting all over the beach, he said they’ve already apprehended over 150 persons since the start of the new tourist season. “It’s a continuous process. The police presence will be there throughout and we have deployed maximum possible police in Calangute and Candolim. Police patrolling will be intensified,” said the DySP.
