MARGAO: Disclosing that he has submitted 216 questions to be answered at the Assembly Session, Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco also said that 19 important issues troubling Goans would be raised up on the floor of the House.
He said he has already given notice of three private members bills, three calling attention motions and five private members resolutions and added that there may be additions to these as the days go by and as the matters arise.
Briefing media persons, Reginaldo said that the fish laced with formalin would be hot topic and that he would raise the issue of amendment to the Coastal Regulation Zone that reduces the no development zone to only 50 meters from the HTL against the earlier 200 meters.
The increasing drug menace where it is now found that drugs are even manufactured in Goa, fallacy of nationalization of rivers being established by the fact that one river does not even qualify, the alarming situation of the roads where people are dying due to potholes are some other issues he promises to raise.
He said that the price rise that has crippled people’s purchasing power and the erratic power supplies where there is not one hour without a power failure are also the issues that would taken up for discussion.
He lamented that when there is growing unemployment amongst the youth, the government was more interested in promoting casino culture in the State.
He also questioned the shortages of beef in the State due to cow vigilantism and the total inability of the government to deal with garbage as nothing has changed at Sonsodo even today. Asserting that the agriculture sector is in doldrums, he said that the sugarcane and dairy farmers are agitated.
He said there is a need to protect tenanted agricultural land that is being sold for a pittance and also said the issue of illegal takeover of Comunidade lands will be raised in the assembly.
Reginaldo said he had given notice of three private member bills with one being on protection of maritime archaeology of Goa, the second seeking to define “close relatives” in the Indian Stamp Act and third to define “vessels” and “off shore” in the Goa Public Gambling Bill.
“I have deliberately moved this bill to test the waters as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar when he was in the opposition had moved the same bill that I am repeating now,” he said.
He said he has also given notice of three calling attention motions with one pertaining to narcotics engulfing the youth, the potholed roads becoming a cause of death and formalin laced fish being brought into Goa from other States.
Besides, he said he has proposed five private members resolution on different topics like making it easier to verify birth details by the External Affairs Ministry for those seeking to get Portuguese passport, officially recognizing Konkani in Roman script, alcohol consumption on roadside and open places, Gaming Commissioner not being appointed as yet and legalizing dhirios on the likes of Jalikattu as was promised in the last assembly session.
