The Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat has resolved to begin preparations for its Gram Panchayat Develop ment Plan (GPDP), marking Gandhi Jayanti with a com mitment to charting the future development of the village. The decision was tak en at a special gram sabha held on Thursday, which witnessed active partici pation from villagers and panchayat members. Announcing the resolu tion, Sarpanch Frank Viegas said that the GPDP is a cru cial exercise for grassroots planning. “This is an important step for our panchayat. The Gram Panchayat Development Plan will help us identify the priorities of our village and channel government resources in the right direc tion. We want to make this a people-centric plan where every ward and every citi zen has a say,” he stated. The Sarpanch explained that the plan will serve as a blueprint for sustainable and inclusive development, en suring that projects taken up under various government schemes align with the ac tual needs of the community. He emphasised that sec tors such as infrastructure, sanitation, waste manage ment, education, health, and women’s empowerment will be given special attention during the planning process. The gram sabha also un derlined the importance of wide-ranging consulta tions with villagers. The panchayat intends to hold ward-level meetings, en courage suggestions from local groups, and involve youth and women in deci sion-making. According to Viegas, this participatory approach will not only improve the quality of governance but also build trust between citizens and their elected representatives. Villagers welcomed the initiative, noting that the preparation of a GPDP will allow the panchayat to lever age government funds more effectively while ensuring ac countability in the execution of works. The panchayat has now set the stage for prepar ing its GPDP for the upcom ing financial year, with the goal of presenting a clear, inclusive, and achievable vi sion for Chinchnim’s growth.
