A tragic incident has left the Bharatpur district in shock, as a two-year-old boy, Tirthraj, has become the third suspected victim of poisoning linked to a commonly prescribed children’s cough syrup. Despite being referred to three hospitals, the toddler could not be saved.
According to reports, Tirthraj and his four-year-old brother Lalit visited a district hospital in Weir on the morning of September 23 with symptoms of cough and cold. Both children were prescribed a cough syrup containing dextromethorphan hydrobromide.

Tirthraj’s father, Nihal Singh, said the toddler was given the syrup at noon and soon after fell asleep. Four days later, Tirthraj tragically passed away, sparking growing concerns among families whose children have consumed the same medication. Several parents have reportedly reported adverse reactions, fearing further cases of poisoning.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and health officials have urged parents to exercise caution and consult doctors before administering over-the-counter cough syrups to children.
