Calangute Panchayat bans LED boards after controversial slogan incident

Following a recent controversy in Calangute, where a shop’s LED display allegedly flashed the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad”, the Calangute Panchayat has announced a complete ban on LED boards across the area. Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said that new licence applicants will now be required to provide a written undertaking declaring they will not install LED boards. Any violation of this rule will lead to immediate confiscation by the panchayat.

Sequeira further stated that the panchayat would begin removing all existing LED boards within the next few days to prevent such incidents in the future. The decision comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of digital displays and aims to maintain public order and community harmony. The panchayat’s strict action has drawn mixed reactions from locals, with some supporting the ban for security reasons, while others see it as a blow to business advertising in the tourist hub.
