The Mormugao Police investigations have revealed that the dacoits in the Baina dacoity had adopted a planned modus operandi seeking employ ment as domestic work ers and later targeting the same households. Addressing a press con ference at the Goa Police headquarters on Thurs day, Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar informed that one of the dacoits who mastermind ed the dacoity in the flat of Sagar Nayak in the Cha mundi Arcade in the wee hours of November 18 had worked with the victim and quit the job nearly eight to nine months back. During his employment, he used to visit Nayak’s flat and was aware of the owner’s busi ness transactions. By observing internal layouts, access routes and security gaps during their employment, they gathered information that facilitated the commission of offence. The accused also ensured that the owner would not suspect them. The police had deployed four teams – three to Mum bai and one to Odisha. Af ter two days of sustained ground surveillance and reconnaissance, the police apprehended six accused from the outskirts of Bhi wandi, Badlapur and Kaly an. One accused was arrest ed in Odisha and the search is on to nab the seventh accused. The six accused were brought to Goa. Two bracelets, four finger rings, three gold chains, one earrings, two gold coins and cash have been recovered from the arrested dacoits. The family had estimated the loss of valuables includ ing jewellery and cash at around Rs 35 lakh. The DGP has appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in the ten ant verification. “There should be no ten ant in the State without police records. That should be the role of the Goa Po lice and community. There should be no employee who is not verified in the State,” Kumar said. SP South Tikam Singh said that the owner had not sub mitted tenant verification of the main accused who mas terminded the dacoity. To a question, the DGP stated that more Bangla deshi nationals were de ported this year compared to the previous year. “We have started a drive against illegal immigrants in the State. We detected and de ported illegal immigrants more than last year. Illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were involved in the dacoi ties reported in Dona Paula and Ganeshpuri, Mapusa recently. The gang mem bers entered the State ille gally, executed the crimes, and left soon after. “They came, struck, and went back,” he said. The DGP also highlighted the need for stronger checks, verification mechanisms, and inter-State coordination to prevent such incidents. He said that police do not disclose details about the investigation of cases or accused to the media so that the criminals do not get alerted and also to ensure public safety.
