RAIA: United Boys of Ambaulim booked their place in the final of the 8th Martin’s Cup football tournament after defeating Guardian Angel SC, 6-5, via the tie-breaker in the semi-final organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club at the panchayat ground, Betalbatim, on Wednesday.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time. Crimson Fernandes and Alex Fernandes were on target for United Boys of Ambaulim, while Fhezer Gomes and Preston Castanha scored for Guardian Angel SC.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Alfiano Fernandes, Sowell Fernandes, Flexson Fernandes and Visiton Fernandes converted for Ambaulim. For Guardian Angel SC, Frazer Gomes, Sheldon Fernandes and Daniel Costa found the net.
Ambaulim goalkeeper Ibon Fernandes, who saved two penalty kicks, was adjudged man-of-the-match. The award was presented by coach and former international footballer Clifford Miranda.
The final will be played on the feast day of Our Lady of Remedios on January 18, between hosts Betalbatim Sporting Club and United Boys of Ambaulim.
