Referring to heated exchanges in the House a day earlier, opposition leaders said that while the Opposition went into the historical context of “Vande Mataram”, the Chief Minister was seen engaged in a tense argument. They alleged that there was an attempt to rewrite history, which the Opposition strongly resisted and opposed.
Calling for a shift away from confrontation, the Opposition urged all sides to move beyond the past. Highlighting the significance of Makar Sankranti, they said the festival symbolises truth and righteousness, noting that it is a day when one should speak the truth and allow “god god ulowpaak jaay” (truth to prevail).

They said that the true mantra for the day should be the protection of Goa, stressing the need to stop the destruction of forests and the environment. The Opposition also called for an end to rising crime, coal handling, hill cutting and the growing trend of hatred.
Emphasising unity and responsibility, opposition leaders appealed to citizens and the government alike to work together to safeguard Goa’s natural resources, social harmony and future generations.
