Mandovi bridge drunk-driving crash to be tried as culpable homicide

The Additional Sessions Court, North Goa, has ordered that the 2024 drunk-driving crash on the old Mandovi Bridge be tried as culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The court held that sufficient prima facie material exists against the accused, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol at high speed. The vehicle reportedly hit barricades, rammed into labourers engaged in road repair work and crashed into a parked machine. One 24-year-old labourer later died during treatment at GMC Bambolim.
