PCB Mulls PKR 5 Million Fine Per Player After T20 World Cup Exit: Reports

Angered by Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering imposing financial penalties on members of the Pakistan national cricket team. Sources indicate that fines could go up to PKR 5 million (around $18,000) per player after the team failed to progress beyond the Super Eight stage.

A senior PCB source confirmed that discussions are ongoing, though no final decision has been taken. The board is debating whether financial punishment would send the right message after a disappointing campaign. Pakistan suffered defeats against arch-rivals India and England, while their clash with New Zealand was washed out. Although they ended their campaign with a win over Sri Lanka, it was not enough to secure a semi-final berth.

The team’s performance reportedly frustrated not just the board but also key government figures. Captain Salman Ali Agha and senior batter Babar Azam returned quietly to Lahore along with other squad members. Players on central contracts receive monthly retainers, match fees and bonuses, making financial penalties a significant step.
