A senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Bilal Arif Salafi, was killed in a brazen attack inside the group’s headquarters at Markaz Taiba in Muridke, Pakistan, shortly after Eid ul-Fitr prayers. According to reports, unidentified gunmen shot and stabbed Salafi before escaping, triggering panic among those present at the facility.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as people rushed to help the injured commander, while unverified videos circulating online appeared to show him lying wounded. The incident is particularly striking as it occurred within one of LeT’s most secure and significant operational centres, raising serious questions about internal security and possible breaches.
The killing comes amid a broader trend of targeted assassinations in Pakistan, especially involving militant figures. Recent data suggests a rise in such incidents, pointing towards a pattern of eliminations by unknown assailants.
Despite heightened security measures during the festive period, including increased surveillance and deployment, the attackers managed to strike and flee, underlining persistent security challenges in the region.
