The High Court of Bombay at Goa has initiated steps to fix accountability for the alleged damage and destruction caused to the surroundings of the protected Chandreshwar Bhoothnath Temple.
Taking serious note of the matter, the court has directed the Goa Tourism Development Corporation to place on record the original proposal, all project plans, copies of work orders, and detailed project specifications related to the beautification work undertaken at the site.
The High Court has also instructed the Department of Archives and Archaeology Goa to file an affidavit explaining the decision-making process followed while granting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to GTDC for carrying out work at the protected temple.
The court’s directions come amid concerns over potential damage to the heritage and environmental integrity of the site, which is officially recognised as a protected monument. Further hearings are expected after the concerned authorities submit the required documents and explanations.
