MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Thursday called upon the MLAs and MPs of the State to demand an increase in the lockdown period.

Addressing media persons, he said, “I request the Chief Minister and government and also all 40 MLAs and 3 MPs who have been elected by the people to come to an agreement in demanding that the three days have to be increased and have to be stricter.”
He requested the MLAs of Goa to keep aside party politics and demand an increase in the lockdown period.
“Check the effect of the lockdown and increase the same with strict compliance. If you make a containment area, CRPF has to be put there to maintain discipline as police have been unable to handle. If Mangor was kept strict the spread would have been contained,” he said.
“It is okay if the schools don’t open. If one kid gets infected we will not be able to control. Classes shouldn’t be started and parents have to be convinced that it is okay if their kids miss out a year,” he said.
On the doubling of railway tracks, Churchill said he is opposed to the same and advised the MPs of Goa to make a case at the Centre for the people regarding their opposition. “The MPs should speak to the Centre, not in Goa. The project has to be closed by making a case in Parliament,” he said.
Churchill demanded that at least two starred hotels of South Goa need to be converted into COVID Care Centres so that the people who can afford can stay there and the COVID Care Centres can be used for the poor, who can’t afford.
