Vasco: A bus breakdown on the New Vaddem slope on Saturday resulted in an oil spill that made the road dangerously slippery, causing several two-wheeler riders to skid and fall.
The situation worsened as rainwater mixed with the leaked oil, creating hazardous driving conditions for motorists using the stretch. Residents who noticed the danger promptly alerted the authorities.
Congress leader Nandadeep Raut informed the Fire and Emergency Services, following which a team rushed to the spot to prevent further accidents.
Fire personnel carried out a clean-up operation by removing the spilled oil and spreading mud on the affected section of the road to improve traction and restore safe traffic movement.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in the incidents. However, the accident has raised concerns among residents about the need for quicker response mechanisms and preventive road safety measures to address such hazards before they result in major mishaps.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while travelling on rain-soaked roads, particularly in areas where oil spills or other road hazards may not be immediately visible.
