Campaigning ends for civic elections

PANJIM: The campaign for Sunday’s municipal elections ended on Friday. Goa is set to hold elections to 11 municipalities on October 25.

Of the 43 complaints received by the State Election Commission, 42 have been disposed off by the commission, State Election Commissioner Dr M Modassir said on Friday.
He informed media persons that there were no complaints received from Cuncolim, Curchorem, Valpoi, Pernem and Sanguem municipal areas and mentioned that there were no complaints of money distribution.
He said planning had been proper to hold free and fair elections.
 With two flying squads each in Mapusa, Margao and Mormugao municipal areas, the commission has, for the first time, also appointed videographers at Bicholim, Margao and Mormugao.
The number of polling stations has been increased for better polling. Voting will begin at 8.00 am and end at 5.00 pm and the results will be declared on October 27 at the respective taluka headquarters.
