Delhi has surpassed its average monthly rainfall for August within the first eight days of the month, with the Safdarjung Observatory recording 230.1 mm of rain so far, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather observatory, recorded 225.7 mm of rainfall from the beginning of August until 8.30 am on Saturday. A further 4.4 mm was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, taking the cumulative rainfall for the month to 230.1 mm.

The rainfall has already exceeded Delhi’s average August precipitation of 226.8 mm, calculated by the IMD based on the 1991–2020 climatological period.
Delhi also witnessed its wettest August day in two years on Saturday. Safdarjung recorded 98.7 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am.
The last time the capital recorded higher rainfall on a single day in August was on August 1, 2024, when 107.6 mm of rain was registered.
The national capital has been experiencing rainfall for the fourth consecutive day, bringing further relief from the recent heat and humid conditions.
The IMD has forecast light to very light rainfall at some places across Delhi over the next two days.
